Child and Teen Counseling

Is your child or teen facing challenges that might benefit from having additional support? Child or teen counseling can provide that support, as it can often be helpful to allow a psychotherapist to work with your child while you remain focused on being the parent.

Child Counseling: Often noted as birth to 12 years old, this period is one marked by physical and emotional growth and exploration.  At A Purposeful Path, therapists work with children ages 8 and up. We focus on offering a safe place for children to open up and playfully explore details of their lives.

Teen Counseling: Often noted as the years 13 to 19, this period is considered the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood.  Some common issues that surface for teens in this period include:

  • Issues of independence and self-identity

  • Potential for experimenting with sexuality, alcohol or drugs

  • Increased importance in peer groups and external appearance

Counseling with this group really focuses on promoting a positive self-image, enhancing assertiveness, promoting positive emotional awareness and regulation, and increasing self-confidence.

If you feel your child or teenager would benefit from having additional therapeutic support, please contact us, we would be happy to talk with you.
